About this deal

Zeb – I will be on a flight to Mexico on Christmas Day, so will be learning plenty of Villancicos (Spanish carols)! James – I always listen to Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera Christmas Eve. He’s a favourite composer of mine, a “musical illustrator” of fairy tales. There’s also a lovely orchestral suite from the opera, if I don’t have time for the full work. It’s lovely, sparkly, magical music.

Gaspard’s Christmas — Just Imagine Gaspard’s Christmas — Just Imagine

Classic FM’s Orchestra on Tour, the Philharmonia Orchestra, invite you to join them for an afternoon of music from family-favourite festive films, from Love Actually and Home Alone, to Elf and Danny Elfman’s spine-tingling score to The Nightmare Before Christmas. The festive December period also sees the end of the religious festival of Hanukkah, and at 9pm on Monday 26 December Rabbi Dr Thomas Salamon presents a special programme to mark the occasion. Salamon, who is Rabbi Emeritus at Westminster Synagogue, features classical music connected to and celebrating the Jewish faith, including part of Handel’s oratorio Judas Maccabaeus and Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes. The Classic FM Hall of Fame Feast, with Aled Jones and Margherita Taylor I hope the underlying message of kindness and the value of community stays with children long after they leave the concert hall.Following on from the success of Gaspard’s Foxtrot, our concert programme for schools, we’re excited to perform the world premiere of Gaspard’s Christmas, the latest orchestral tale from Classic FM presenter and author Zeb Soanes. With music by composer Jonathan Dove and live drawing from illustrator James Mayhew, this extra special performance is the perfect way to see in Christmas with the family. My favourite moment in Jonathan Dove’s score is when he introduces St Peter’s Church. The text describes it as being ‘ablaze with light’ and he uses the full power of the orchestra and tubular bells, it really is a thrillingly magical moment. SEE!’ exclaimed Peter. I told you it was Father Christmas. He knows my name. And he called me Saint Peter because I helped him.’ The festive season wouldn’t be complete without Handel’s Messiah, and this concert by Classic FM’s Orchestra in the South of England is sure to be among the best this year. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are joined by the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus for their performance, under the direction of Laurence Cummings.
