About this deal

The representation of the working classes and of non-white characters has always struck me as a little cliched and one-dimensional at best. Meanwhile, Cat Deerbon, Serrailler’s physician daughter, becomes overly involved in the lives of her patients. Some stronger sense of direction and plot – a feeling that we were heading towards some form of resolution.

Chapter two went from 4 to 7, three covered two-thirds of pages 8 and 9, four was two and a third pages long.It is important you notify us quickly, using the above link, so that we can pay you the right amount of Benefit/Support. It’s an odd ending to the drugs case, almost as if a television drama stopped five minutes before the end. The police work seems so well portrayed as well, with red herrings and false leads, a few happy resolutions, but many more sad endings, and sometimes no resolution at all, just the realization that there are a lot of bad people out there. Hill’s Serrailler novels are always a delight to read, thoroughly grounded in the town of Lafferton with familiar characters and landmarks set against beautiful countryside.

Overall, this a engaging read, with the darkness of the horrors of the drugs trade and its terrifying toll on young people and others in the community. You could be taken to court or have to pay a penalty if you give wrong information or do not report a change in your circumstances.

Still, it was lovely to be back with Simon and his colleagues as they try to stop local thugs using young children to run drugs, and work out if a recent suicide of a teenage girl might have actually been murder. As ever, she is the only competent, caring doctor in the book and is surprised when the overworked worn down nurses at the hospital don't appreciate her pointing out all the things they are doing wrong. Vulnerable local kids like Brookie and Olivia, whose involvement gives Serrailler a bitter taste of this new landscape. Simon is contemplating a huge change of circumstance and his niece, Hannah, has announced a massive opportunity in her chosen career. Your claim might be stopped or reduced if you do not report a change straight away or you give incorrect information.

The book ends without as much of a resolution as I expected and kept me hanging on for more – looking forward to the next already. I felt slightly let down in not seeing the arrest of the guilty party, instead it is more a hint than an action scene and I missed that final feeling of justice done. If you have been receiving Income Support, Income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related) or Severe Disablement Allowance for 26 weeks or more before starting work you may be entitled to an Extended Payment of Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support. Plus there was a (somewhat bizarre) shoutout for Mick Herron’s Slough House series, which are possibly my favourite books. With a great career, a fabulous house, a beautiful, intelligent partner and a bit of light sketching/poetry on the side, it’s all rather nauseating.Having recently listened to a number of Inspector Dalgliesh stories, the similarities are notable: they’re both beautifully (if wordily) written and both rather smug - yet they’re languorous and well-plotted with great narrators. Simon was not a shit to women in this novel – and kind of got a taste of his own medicine from Rachel ghosting him!

If you are not sure what a change of circumstance is you must contact the Benefits section immediately. A quote from Doctor Cat Deerbon regarding the medical effort to save a life, "Every last door must be closed, every last avenue explored, and every last hope like a candle that must be allowed to run its course until it flickers out.Professionally, he finds himself having to confront the nightmare rise and spread of the county lines drugs trade, a threat to young people, the exploitation of children, with all the attendant threats it poses to the community. Was having trouble finding this specific edition (didn't like the UK edition's cover, and there are quite a few different versions of this book existing) so very glad I found it from here! This time around we also get a bit of Cat's children, mostly Sam, a young man still trying to find what his life's work should be, while navigating a romance that has clearly gotten by him. Cat was still a doctor but the reader could have removed all reference to her from the book and it wouldn’t have changed anything. We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child.
