About this deal

Considering this, plus the auto electrician I went to see reccomending it, I have decided to wrap my battery in some insulation to try and keep the worst of the frosts and cold off it. The engine fires up every time even at -40C (or F) Charging the battery keeps it at the optimum temperature due to the electrical energy being applied and keeps the cold cranking amperes at their peak.

I see some cars have a little thermal insulation around the battery; That is to protect it from high underhood temperatures and ,hopefully extend life. In the cold the reactions slow down which is why if a battery is going to fail it tends to be in the winter. If it was insulated against engine bay heat, the battery would be in a sealed compartment with radiant insulation on the outside instead of batt-type insulation on the inside. I don't have much experience in automotive, but I don't think batteries are heating to a temperature higher than the running temperature of an engine. Or you could get a late model Jeep Grand Cherokee where the battery recides in a hollowed out area under the front passenger seat.

This Cell Saver by DEI is very capable of damping vibration and will absorb and neutralize any damaging leaky battery acids. The insulating blankets are actually installed by Honda more for insulation from heat than cold, but clearly they benefit a battery in both ambient extremes. Also, the jacket is made of sturdy material so its clearly going to outlive the car so I will probably use it on any replacement car I get in the future.

Because electric vehicle battery failure can be highly dangerous, insulating the space between modules and cells and securing the battery to the vehicle in a shock-resistant way to reduce the risk of total rupture are critical facets of any design. I've read batteries suffer most from the heat coming from the engine, rather than the cold temperatures during winter. Hi all, I have read a few things about a mayonnaise looking deposit under the oil filler cap and it being attributed to the T6 engine running colder than other engines but never see any pictures. Long ago ,with carburetor and points ignition, I took the battery out and kept it in a warm house overnight ( at 0 F).
