The box to hold everything in is made well, sturdy cardboard and a magnetic "clasp" thing at the bottom to keep it closed. On the one hand, this lets the central figures shine: There’s nothing to distract from the core of the card, as can happen sometimes in decks with messy, overcomplicated imagery. Because I am so inwardly focused most of the time, I never really read tarot for myself, but I think I may start with this deck. Artist Tillie Walden makes the most of her comic illustrator’s skills with this bright, colourful deck.

Visibly brown bodies are interspersed here and there and primarily in the pentacles and wands suit, at least from what I noted. The cards shuffle beautifully, and I had little trouble with them even with my tiny hands- just a few slipped cards that I readily blame on my natural clumsiness.Maybe you can simply include the two cards for an 80-card deck to read with, and when Morning or Night shows up in your reading, look to these card meanings as provided for your interpretation of the spread. I want to treasure every reading from the Cosmic Slumber deck as I would treasure a strange and beautiful dream that I don’t quite understand.

Beautifully done, Walden, and what an incredible pairing it is to be published by Liminal 11, easily becoming one of my favorite small house deck publishers in our field. And there are a few cards like that, where the meaning given by Walden is a generally positive affirmation of a more traditional definition, but the image must be looked at through that lens. I am so excited for this and would firstly like to thank the fabulous Liminal 11 for sending me a review copy of the deck. Each of the suits follow a particular colour scheme; the torches featuring deep purples, whilst the cups feature shades of blue, the swords feature tones of red and the pentacles feature earthy, shades of green. Having been teaching myself how to art, let me tell you just how challenging it is to draw dynamic movement in water.This is followed by a short chapter on How to Read the Tarot, which covers how to shuffle the cards, focus a question, and lay out the cards. Accompanying the deck is a hardcover little white book that fits into the slipcase box that provides a nice introduction to the cards for any beginners. Here is a short video-walkthrough guide that I have put together further explaining The Cosmic Slumber Tarot. Additionally, the deck includes two new cards, “The Morning” and “The Night,” to accentuate the somnolent theme. Nota bene: This is the special edition of the deck, which is released in a limited run of a little over a thousand copies.

All the cards have handwritten titles beneath the illustration, with the Major Arcana being given both a number as well as name, and the Minor Arcana being titled in full i. Liminal 11 is also the publisher of the fresh Modern Witch Tarot and the delightful Luna Sol Tarot, which I also got to review.And, once opened, instead of a rectangular box, Liminal11 packaged the deck in a round lilac-colored tin. For example, the Star of The Cosmic Slumber Tarot delights me because Walden’s Star is a real woman who radiates comfort and tranquility.
