About this deal

I very much look forward to revisiting it in future, and hopefully getting my hands on a copy which I can add to my collection, and treasure.

Many of the plants that were common place in Edith Holden's day are now rarely seen, and the variety of birds that are featured reflect the different environment and agricultural practices of the early part of the 20th century. The author's gentle yet astute observations of the natural world around her have always captivated me. Edith Holden’s handwritten works, including her favourite poems, personal thoughts and observations on the wildlife surrounding her Warwickshire home are exquisitely illustrated by beautiful paintings on very page of flora and fauna of the countryside through the seasons. Then, with no rhyme or reason, she opened her 'room with a view' and shared with the reader the happenstances of a particular day.I have wanted to read Edith Holden’s The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady for many years now, after seeing some effusive reviews before I had even entered the world of blogging about literature. A charming addition to Rizzoli’s carefully curated program of bringing classic books back into print.

I bought this book back in the '70s when it was highly popular, but somehow lost my copy, so when I saw a hardback copy for just one penny I had to have it!

You need to look at her published album 'in the flesh': feel the smoothness of the pages, notice her handwriting and appreciate, first-hand, her artwork. It stands upright and open on our hall nature table surrounded by seasonal items and plants collected on nature walks.

The book is 2nd hand but you would hardly know it as this has been looked after I had a copy from new but lost it in a flood so glad to be able to get again . At the Countess's studio in St James Palace the Smiths associated with leading artists such as Sir George Frampton, sculptor of the statue of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, and royal visitors such as King Faisal of Arabia. All the charm and beauty of the original remains intact in this facsimile, with Holden's carefully handwritten favorite poems, personal thoughts, observations of the wildlife she saw in her native Warwickshire; and remarks on her travels throughout England and Scotland. Also, she painted beautiful watercolors watercolours with warm browns, cool blues, muted greens and rich tints of purple. Holden was made famous by the posthumous publication, in 1977, of her Nature Notes for 1906 under the title The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. However, when it arrived, the cover was in different shades of colour loss - looks like parts were faded by the sun. com, the Sell on Etsy app, and the Etsy app, as well as the electricity that powers Etsy’s global offices and employees working remotely from home in the US.
