About this deal

I found it easy to work with, no fumes (in peoples homes), a few drops of water to change consistency, doesn't seem to shrink, dries fast.

My experience has been that the wood filler never stains the same as the rest of the wood so it really shows. Well, I'm not terribly scientific about it, I just ground up a bunch of balsa scraps using a dremel, and dumped some elmers in.The impression that I got was that it would be a great product for the 'typical' use of a wood filler where you really want it to dry hard and be drillable without crumbling, but it was way too hard, and coarse, for balsa wood. I do like it reconstitutes with water like timbermate, so no waste, I only use it when it will be painted over, otherwise timbermate is my go to. Actually the stainable one is much grainier and really sucks, in my opinion, for filling balsa voids.

For me, the metal of a putty knife wants to pull Timbermate a bit out of the hole if you work it too much, but using a little block of wood right after applying the filler really locks it in and levels the filler fast. The Walmart near my workplace has it in 24 can cases, as does usually the Marsh (supermarket) near my home. The content contained on this site is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute professional advice. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. I had the same issue a while back, unsure of the exact version, but it seemed to be gritty and would not sand smooth. I was never completely satisfied, but the texture of the plastic wood filler looked a little better next to the real wood beside it.

As to staining, I've found that it takes stain well enough for my purpose and no worse than any wood filler. Quote from: bobfog on July 08, 2016, 06:36 AM If it's available to you in the US, OSMO wood filler is something I've recently started using and am having excellent success with it. I usually use the 2 oz tubs, and it takes me a long time to go through it, so when I eventually crack open the 32 oz one, I'll portion it out and make sure I keep it sealed/moist. If it was actually better in some way it seems like they'd either keep selling it or incorporate the formula in the current product. From filling nail holes in moulding strips to filling gaps in hardwood floors, Elmer's® Carpenter's Wood Filler tubes make the task quick and easy.

Unwanted holes or chips in your wood furniture do not mean the end of your favorite household pieces. To reduce the risk of serious injury and/or damage to your Festool product, always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions in your Festool product's Instruction Manual. Well part of the wood dowel broke leaving half a dowel normally I’d attempt to glue the broken wood that came off and I tried that but I couldn’t get the clamp to stay still, so I threw the broken part away and put wood putty in it’s place and formed the putty into the same shape as the dowel was originally. I have been using the Elmer's for a couple of years now for certain projects (Painted projects), haven't seen the name change, but I get mine at Lowes, as I haven't seen it at Home Depot. This way you can get a closer match to the stain color you will be using and it’ll conceal the repaired area far better. The way I ground the balsa resulted in some longer wood fibres being produced, which may have some effect on the final consistency. Just imaging a pro having a problem with a product resulting in lost time an revenues because the product fails and the job need to be redone.
