About this deal

Fujinon lenses are known for their image quality, and the XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR lives up to those image quality expectations. Fujinon lenses are also known for their inconsistent aperture ring tightness. Some are too tight, some are just right and some are too loose. To me, the aperture ring on the XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR is way too loose. I think it’s the loosest of all the Fujinon lenses I’ve experienced. This is mostly plastic on the outside with a metal mount and aperture ring. Internals are metal and plastic. As reported in the past when we’ve tested other Fujifilm X-mount lenses, the manufacturer delivers correction for Raw files via lens-specific metadata. This is automatically accessed by the Raw converter used to correct or mitigate common optical phenomena, and is the reason Fujifilm lenses aren’t listed under lens profiles in Camera Raw or Lightroom. I use a clear (UV) protective filter instead of a cap. I only use a cap when I throw this in a bag with other gear, otherwise I leave a clear protective filter on my lens at all times instead of a cap so I'm ready to shoot instantly.

There are no color fringes as shot Fujifilm's cameras, which by default correct for any that may be there.Regardless, with a little patience and some trial and error, I was able to capture bees landing on flowers that were swaying gently in the wind and still obtain sharp focus. Full disclosure: Fujifilm USA loaned me the XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR lens, with no expectations of producing a review or opportunity to review this content before publication. Physical Characteristics quote] This review tells us how well the lens performs on a variety of subjects, shows the data measured, comments on the handling and other general observations that hopefully give us the conclusion that it's excellent, albeit expensive.
quote] As regards the OIS, I'm not sure that this is very useful at macro distances anyway. I would be putting the camera firmly on a tripod,
If you’re not sure yet whether to take the plunge and buy a Fujifilm X macro lens, then this is a very economical way to get started. I’ve done quite a bit of research and have come up with a list of the best extension tubes for Fujifilm:As any great macro photographer will tell you, a great deal of patience and finesse is required to get sensational macro shots at life size. By utilising focusing aids such as Live View, focus peaking and Fujifilm’s split image manual focusing feature, pin-sharp macro shots have never been easier to take. The fast and precise focus engine is quite handy when trying to capture live insects in the field, and I got waaaaaaay more keepers with the XF80mm f/2.8 than I usually get with my XF60mm f/2.4. Latest development of the X Mount Lens Roadmap unveiled; new Firmware Updates for FUJIFILM X-Pro2, X-T2, X100F and X-T20 coming soon As expected, the only difference at f/8 is that the out-of-focus parts, which are most of this image, aren't quite as far out of focus. This is simply the laws of physics and this lens is performing flawlessly: Until recently, Fujifilm users who love to photograph the smallest of subjects have been left in the dark in terms of having a true 1:1 macro lens available to them. Thankfully, this is no longer the case; the Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro presents the opportunity to photograph the tiniest subjects from close distances, delivering respectable image quality.

These aren't facts or specifications, they are the results of my research that requires hours of photography and calculations on the resulting data. Photoshop's

Autofocus and manual focus performance

When used on Fuji's APS-C cameras, it sees the same angle of view as a 120 mm lens sees when used on a 35mm or full-frame camera. Optical construction is 16 elements in 12 groups. There are 1 Aspherical, 3 ED (Extra Low Dispersion) and 1 Super ED elements. The diaphragm has 9 blades to improve the bokeh of the lens. The whole lens is weather and dust resistant.
