About this deal

I smiled when I read how Darwin spelled bumble bees, since the Swedish word is “Humlor”, much closer to the word Darwin used. It’s a really well put together guide that contains more written narrative interspaced with a few illustrations and images to back up points. The Bee Book offers startling insights into the lives of bees and shows how we can best support and benefit from their presence in our gardens and hives.

Taking readers deep into the sensory world of bees, Chittka illustrates how bee brains are unparalleled in the animal kingdom in terms of how much sophisticated material is packed into their tiny nervous systems. A beautiful hard backed book with nice thick quality pages displaying some lovely bright and engaging illustrations to accompany the plentiful facts on each page. If you’re a fan of the famous detective you might be interested to know that yes, he actually took up beekeeping when he retired! You'd think it would be easier to confuse a bee so they'd get a little lost, but they haven't been getting enough credit for how good they are at navigating the world. Having already read Honeybee Democracy, which is referenced quite often in this book, and The Lives of Bees: The Untold Story of the Honey Bee in the Wild, I had a solid base before starting this one, but I think reading this book first would have been better. Audiobook wouldn't do it justice, and a standard kindle removes the all important color and some detail. The Lives of Bees will be highly-prized and often referenced by scientists, beekeepers and students of bees, and will fascinate anyone who wishes to learn more about the lives of these amazing insects.

Throughout each chapter, Chittka includes and explains (in layman's terms) the studies that give possible explanations to each chapter's question. Originally a book about an adventurous bee who leaves the hive and befriends other insects, this much-loved character has grown to have her own comic strip, and international anime TV series. He picked up the volume from the table and read out the whole title, Practical Handbook of Bee Culture, with Some Observations upon the Segregation of the Queen. He has me convinced bees are worthy of our respect and to plant a wild pollination patch in my backyard. Also, bees are not a "hive mind" like you see in science fiction (no animal is, as far as we can tell), each bee is very much an individual and can have its own ideas about itself and the world.Essentially, if you’ve never kept bees before and want a good introduction to the hobby, you could do much worse than this book. Others find their chose for the best books on beekeeping tend to be ones with more text and fewer pictures! Borodale observes the living architecture of the comb, the range and locality of the colony, its flights, flowers, water sources, parasites, lives and deaths in this poem-journal. If you can get over the inaccuracy that this character is a ‘he’ when in reality worker bees are female, this colourful story teaches kids of 2 years and older a big lesson about sharing. However, you will need a fair amount of honest before you can consider a profitable business venture.

Somewhere amongst all this scientific descriptions Chittka stops himself and come to a somewhat surprising conclusion.Whether you’re new to beekeeping or just have a fascination with the world of bees, there are plenty of books on beekeeping available to help you learn. I follow Chittka on FB and Insta, and he seems like a wonderful human being, and he posted that he gifted this book to the Dalia Lama when they met in early 2023. An incredibly rich and complex examination of the interior life of bees, well-suited to those with a deep and abiding interest in scientific experimentation and its subsequent nomenclatures. Bees are brilliant at building, super social creatures and along with other insects, are responsible for a third of every mouthful of food you eat!

This gorgeous and noteworthy book provides a very different view of honey bees and how they live in the wild and offers important lessons for saving the world’s managed bee colonies. Regardless of what you think of the title, this is a really good beginner beekeeper guide and has been specially adapted to suit the UK market. You'll find out just how much they matter, why they are declining, and what we can do to help in this adorable kids' book. In een pikdonkere omgeving liet hij een bij los op een paar bolletjes waar een druppel nectar in verborgen zat en op een paar kubussen zonder nectar. Without a doubt, this book wins our ‘best book on beekeeping’ award for the way it clearly explains beekeeping techniques with a range of colourful photos and sketches. Yes, bees have been trained to learn by watching their nest mates to pull a cotton string to reveal a pool of sugar water.
